Yep, he is. In fact, Rogue’s acceptance into the X-Menby the team entirely hinged on her absorbing him.
Let me explain: In Rogue’s Brotherhood years, during Dazzler #22-24, Rogue has an opportunity to absorb Angel, but blatantly refuses. She’s scared of absorbing anyone with physical mutations like Angel’s wings, because of what it might do to her.
Later, Rogue joins the X-Men over the team’s objections. They don’t like her, they don’t trust her, and until that point, Carol had been a member of the X-Men, so they have a vested emotional interest in never trusting Rogue.
So then we get to Uncanny X-men #179. In the events leading up to this moment, Colossus and Pyro get into a fight, and Pyro turns up the temperature of his flames high enough to melt Colossus’ steel skin. He ends up stuck as a statue, unable to change back. The Morlock Healer can heal Colossus, but they need to get him back to his human self first.
This is when everyone turns to Rogue. Rogue, who I will remind you, was scared of absorbing anyone with a physical mutation because of what it might do to her. But to save the life of her teammate, someone who doesn’t even trust her, Rogue agrees to do the very thing she scared of doing the most. She absorbs Colossus and the mutilated state of his physical mutant powers.
And she becomes a melted steel statue until his powers wear off.
Colossus is healed. And the X-men are all “Well, Rogue’s definitely one of us now.”
Rogue’s also absorbed Colossus on several other occasions. But that first one is the most important. In fact it might actually be one of the most important absorptions of Rogue’s entire history. Definitely in the Top 5.
